Bangkok to Chiang Rai by bus covers the full length of Thailand's northern corridor — from the capital to the country's northernmost major city. The overnight journey takes 10 to 12 hours, departing from Mo Chit Northern Terminal in Bangkok and arriving in Chiang Rai by morning.
An alternative approach is to take the overnight bus to Chiang Mai (9–11 hours), rest for a day or two, then continue to Chiang Rai by day bus (3–4 hours). This two-leg approach is more comfortable and allows you to see both cities.
