The area is particularly known for its mangrove forests, which line the mouth of the Pranburi River. Kayaking through the mangroves at dawn or dusk, with birds calling overhead and the mountains in the background, is one of the most peaceful experiences in the region.
The beach at Pranburi is long, wide and relatively uncrowded. The town's seafood restaurants along the beach road serve outstanding fresh fish, prawns and crab at prices far below what you would pay in Hua Hin.
Thirty kilometres south of Pranburi, Sam Roi Yot National Park is one of Thailand's most important wetland habitats — a striking landscape of limestone peaks, freshwater marshes and coastal caves home to thousands of migratory birds and the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin.
