Trat is the jumping-off point for Koh Chang — Thailand's second-largest island and home to some of the country's most beautiful beaches and jungle scenery.
Trat Province on Thailand's far eastern coast is gateway to Koh Chang, Koh Kood and the archipelago of islands near the Cambodian border. The town of Trat itself is pleasant and relaxed, with a good network of guesthouses and cafes.
From Bangkok's Ekkamai terminal, buses run frequently to Trat throughout the day. The 315-kilometre journey takes 5 to 6 hours along the eastern seaboard. From Trat bus terminal, minivans connect to Laem Ngop pier (about 20 minutes), from where ferries cross to Koh Chang (45 minutes).
Koh Chang is the most developed of the eastern islands, with a good range of accommodation and restaurants.
