Complete guide to bus travel from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan — schedules, prices, operators and booking tips.
Koh Samui to Koh Phangan is one of the shortest inter-island crossings in Thailand — just 45 minutes by high-speed ferry, making it an easy hop between two of the Gulf coast's most popular islands.
Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are neighbouring islands in the Gulf of Thailand, separated by just 20 kilometres of water. The frequent ferry connection makes it easy to base yourself on either island and visit the other as a day trip, or to continue your journey from one to the other.
Ferries depart from multiple piers on Koh Samui — Nathon Pier on the western coast and Big Buddha Pier in the northeast are the main departure points. Lomprayah and Seatran both operate high-speed catamarans that take about 45 minutes.
Koh Phangan's main pier is Thong Sala on the western coast. From here, songthaews and taxis connect to all parts of the island. Haad Rin (Full Moon Party beach) is on the southeastern tip, about 30 minutes by songthaew.
