The road from Chiang Mai to Pai winds through 762 curves as it climbs into the mountains. The scenery is spectacular — forested hills, valley views and occasional glimpses of traditional hilltribe villages. However, the twisting road means motion sickness is extremely common. Minivans are the most popular choice for this route — they are more frequent than buses and go directly into Pai town centre. Aya Service is the most established operator with multiple daily departures. The journey takes 3 to 4 hours.
