About the Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Bus Route

Koh Phi Phi is arguably Thailand's most beautiful island — dramatic limestone cliffs plunging into crystal-clear turquoise water, perfect white sand beaches, and the famous Maya Bay where The Beach was filmed.

Route Details & Travel Information

Koh Phi Phi Don is the larger of the two Phi Phi islands — the only inhabited one, with a lively village, excellent diving, spectacular scenery and some of Thailand's most photographed beaches. The smaller Koh Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and home to the famous Maya Bay.

The ferry from Phuket departs from Rassada Pier in Phuket Town, about 5 kilometres from Phuket Town centre (take a taxi or local bus). Two regular ferry departures run daily: 08:30 and 13:00. The crossing takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Speedboats are also available for a faster crossing (around 45 minutes) but cost significantly more. Day trips by speedboat are popular for those who want to see Maya Bay and Phi Phi Leh without staying overnight.

On arrival at Tonsai Pier, the village spreads behind the pier. Accommodation ranges from budget beach huts to stylish boutique resorts on the quieter northern beaches (Loh Dalum, Hat Yao). For the best experience, stay at least one night — day trippers arrive around 10:00 and leave by 15:00, so early mornings and late afternoons are magical.

Maya Bay reopened in 2021 after a three-year closure for ecological rehabilitation. Access is now strictly managed — snorkelling is permitted but boats may not anchor. Arrive early for the best experience.
